1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you create an account or use the Service, you may provide:

  • Account information: name, username, email address, profile photo, and bio.
  • Trip content: posts, photos, captions, star ratings, highlights, travel dates, and location tags that you choose to share.
  • Itineraries: planned activities, destinations, dates, and notes you enter into the trip planner.
  • Social interactions: comments, replies, likes, and saves you make on content.
  • Wishlist and travel history: countries and destinations you mark as visited or on your wish list.
  • Communications: messages or feedback you send directly to us.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect certain technical and usage data, including:

  • Device information: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
  • Log data: IP address, app version, pages or features accessed, time and date of access, and crash reports.
  • Usage patterns: features you interact with, content you view, search terms you enter, and time spent in the app.

1.3 Information from Your Device

With your permission, we access your device's photo library only when you actively select photos to attach to a trip post. We do not scan, index, or upload your photo library in the background. You can revoke photo access at any time in your device settings.

1.4 Location Information

Loop does not continuously track your device location. Location data is collected only when you manually enter or select a destination or location tag for a post or itinerary.

1.5 Information from Third Parties

If you sign up using a third-party authentication service (e.g., Sign in with Apple or Google), we receive basic profile information such as your name and email address as permitted by that service and your privacy settings with them.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • create and manage your account;
  • provide, operate, and improve the Service, including the home feed, trip planner, discover features, and world map;
  • personalize your experience and surface content relevant to your travel interests;
  • enable social features such as following friends, liking posts, and commenting;
  • send you service-related notifications (e.g., new comments on your posts, account alerts);
  • respond to your support requests and feedback;
  • detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
  • analyze usage trends to improve the Service and develop new features;
  • comply with legal obligations.

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 With Other Users

Content you post publicly (trip posts, comments, itineraries, profile information, and your Been/Wishlist map) is visible to other users based on your visibility settings. Content set to friends only is visible only to users you follow and who follow you back. You control your visibility settings within the app.

3.2 Service Providers

We share information with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the Service, including cloud hosting, analytics, error monitoring, and customer support. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your information for purposes other than providing services to us.

3.3 Business Transfers

If Loop is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership or control of your information.

3.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with a legal obligation or government request; (b) protect the rights, property, or safety of Loop, our users, or the public; or (c) enforce our Terms of Service.

3.5 With Your Consent

We may share your information for other purposes with your explicit consent.

3.6 What We Do Not Do

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your information with advertisers for the purpose of serving you targeted ads.

4. User-Generated Content and Public Information

Information you post publicly on Loop, including trip posts, photos, comments, profile details, and your world map, may be seen, copied, or shared by other users. Even if you delete content, copies may persist in other users' feeds or caches for a period of time. Please consider this before sharing sensitive personal information publicly.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, typically within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, compliance, or legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or preventing abuse).

Aggregated, anonymized data may be retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.

6. Your Choices and Rights

6.1 Account Information

You may review and update your account information at any time through your profile settings. You may delete your account from the Settings screen within the app.

6.2 Content Visibility

You can control who sees your posts using the visibility toggle available when creating a post (public or friends only). You can update visibility on existing posts from your profile.

6.3 Device Permissions

You can revoke photo library access at any time through your device's operating system settings. This will not affect previously submitted content.

6.4 Communications

You may opt out of non-essential push notifications through your device settings or the in-app notification preferences.

6.5 Data Requests

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@thelooptravel.app. We will respond within 30 days.

7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act grants you additional rights, including the right to:

  • know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell about you;

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted information to us, please contact us at support@thelooptravel.app.

9. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.

10. Third-Party Services and Links

The Service may display images from third-party providers (such as Unsplash) and may link to third-party websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through or in connection with the Service.

11. International Users

The Service is operated in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the Last Updated date at the top of this policy and post the revised policy in the app. For material changes, we will provide additional notice (such as an in-app notification).
